V2 draft. This part of New To Islam is being rebuilt and is awaiting final review by a qualified scholar.

Before you begin learning Salah, you need one foundation first: purity.

Islam distinguishes between being physically clean and being in the ritual state required for prayer. These ideas are related, but they are not the same. You can be freshly showered and still need wudu, and needing wudu does not mean that you are dirty.

Start with Lesson 12. It explains the basic idea of purification before you learn the actual steps of ghusl, wudu and tayammum.

We teach ghusl before wudu deliberately. There are situations in which a full ritual washing is required before wudu alone would be sufficient for prayer. Learning that distinction first helps prevent a very understandable beginner mistake.

If purity starts making you anxious: do not turn it into constant checking or repeated washing. Learn the rules gradually, act on what you actually know, and ask a qualified scholar or trusted teacher when you are genuinely unsure.

Scholar review status: This revised learning path is under development and has not yet completed final Islamic-content review.
